Accurate, But Far More Than Historical
Why Emphasize Writings From 2,000 or More Years Ago? Because the Bible is more than a historical document, more than a reference work, more than good stories to read to our children (indeed, it is all that, but is so much more). As is stated in 2 Timothy 3:15-17:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
»» Grace Community Church is therefore committed to Biblical teaching, and not the rules of Man or its changing notions. Man’s wisdom is utter foolishness to God (1 Cor. 1:20). Only the truths that proceed from the Word of God are a timeless, comforting constant. And we try to humbly and honestly distinguish between our own temporal ideas and those that come straight from the depths of Scripture.
»» There is life-changing, life-affirming and life-giving power in the Word of God: So why teach anything else? (2 Tim. 3:15-18, Heb. 4:12, Isa. 55:11, Jude 3, 1 Thess. 1:5 and 2 Thess. 2:15, among others) All the self-help books on the consumer shelves today, combined, cannot offer the timeless wisdom, the fulfilling joy, peace or wholeness that can come from an honestly surrendered, dependent devotion to Biblical Truth. We endeavor to be faithful to that opportunity and calling, holding each other accountable to that challenge in love.
»» Scripture itself warns of the danger and consequences of teaching worldly notions and misleading people in deceit-disguised-as-truth. The long, often discouraging history of Man shows what happens when we don’t live in the pursuit of and obdedience to truth as revealed by the only one in a position to know: the Creator of the Universe and provider of our salvation!
We take this charge seriously, and are committed to teaching the Bible with care. Even the most well-meaning people have caused harm to themselves and others by careless, casual or superficial reading of Scripture. That is also why Grace Church is committed to teaching the value of intent, prayerful Bible interpretation.
